Choose the right kind of work
An assessment reviews exposure and controls. Authorised penetration testing investigates exploitable weaknesses within a defined boundary. Managed monitoring reviews agreed telemetry and escalation signals. Incident response addresses a suspected or confirmed event. These services need different inputs and operating arrangements.
Verify the delivery arrangement
Singapore’s cybersecurity licensing framework covers penetration testing and managed SOC monitoring. Check the applicable requirements and the provider’s eligibility for the actual scope before appointment. A brand name or service description is not a substitute for that review. Refer to CSA and CSRO for current requirements.
Put authorisation and boundaries in writing
Identify systems, locations, accounts, permitted techniques and excluded activities. Agree test windows, third-party permissions, stop conditions and a contact who can respond if operations are affected.
Ask for evidence that supports action
Specify how findings are prioritised, how evidence is handled, who owns remediation and whether retesting is included. For monitoring, define telemetry coverage, triage responsibilities, service hours and escalation. For response, establish the engagement and communications process.
Connect security work to recovery
Review the systems the business depends on and the practical ability to restore them. Agree recovery objectives and test assumptions. A report has value when people can use it to improve controls and make decisions.
Prepare for the conversation
- Authorised asset and system scope
- Required provider eligibility verified
- Named escalation contacts
- Agreed evidence-handling requirements
- Remediation owners and follow-up
